Yobe State has recorded its first case of coronavirus (COVID-19).
The state Deputy Governor and Chairman of COVID-19 Prevention and Control Committee, Idi Barde, announced this on Thursday.
He explained that the patient is a 29-year-old man who has no travel history.
Barde noted that following the confirmation of the index case, the committee has commenced the contact-tracing of those believed to have had contact with the patient.
This brings the number of states affected by the virus to 35 including the Federal Capital Territory Abuja, according to data from the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control on Wednesday night.
The Centre announced 196 new cases in the country, bringing the total coronavirus infections to 1728 while 307 recoveries and 51 fatalities have been reported.
