Yoruba Group Kicks Those Against Tinubu’s Inauguration

EKO HOT BLOG reports that Yoruba Commitment Leaders (YCL), a prominent group, has strongly criticized individuals and organizations who are advocating for the postponement or cancellation of the upcoming inauguration of President-Elect Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as required by the relevant statutes of the country.

The group argues that such calls stem from bitterness over the heavy defeat suffered in the last Presidential polls.

The YCL expressed its stance in a communique issued following a meeting held in Ikenne, located in the Ikenne local government area of Ogun State.

In the communique, the group expressed its dismay at the campaign to disrupt the constitutional process of swearing in the President-Elect, emphasizing that these efforts are destined to fail as they run contrary to the law of the land.

According to the YCL, this is a critical period that demands collaboration with the President-Elect to formulate strategies aimed at addressing the numerous challenges facing the nation, including the issue of restructuring.

The group called upon these individuals and organizations to properly study the statutes governing the electoral process and cautioned against reckless and provocative statements or actions that could derail the nation’s democracy. Instead, the YCL urged them to join forces with other well-meaning Nigerians to confront the pressing issues plaguing the country.

The YCL further highlighted that previous general elections in the country had produced contested results that were eventually resolved through election tribunals, allowing the declared winners to assume office.

The group questioned why the case of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the President-Elect, should be treated differently. It perceived the calls for a change in the established legal procedure, as outlined in the Electoral Act, as pure mischief.

Shifting the focus to the forthcoming governorship election in Kogi State, the YCL advocated for equity, justice, fair play, and inclusiveness.

The group argued that the Kogi West Senatorial district, which consists of the majority of Yoruba Okun people, should be given the opportunity to produce the state’s governor. It stressed that other zones within the state had already produced governors, and now it is the turn of the Yoruba in Kogi to unite behind a single candidate to achieve a fruitful outcome.

Additionally, the YCL strongly condemned the reckless sale of lands and properties by some Yoruba individuals, including inherited assets, to other tribes solely for monetary gain, disregarding the interests and heritage of their own people. The group deemed this practice an abomination in Yorubaland and called for its immediate cessation, emphasizing the importance of preserving the inheritance of the Yoruba race.

Expressing concern about the involvement of the youth in societal disorders such as cultism, illicit drug use, and alcoholism, the YCL called upon the government and other stakeholders to take action to safeguard the future of the country. The group emphasized the need to harness the energy and potential of these young individuals to contribute to the nation’s development.
