Yoruba Nation Co-Organisers Dare Police, Vow To Hold Rally In Lagos

  • The co-organisers of the Yoruba Nation rally, Ilana Omo Oodua (IOO), have vowed to proceed with the protest slated for Saturday (July 3, 2021) in Lagos State with or without Sunday Igboho.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the co-organisers of the Yoruba Nation rally, Ilana Omo Oodua (IOO), have vowed to proceed with the protest slated for Saturday (July 3, 2021) in Lagos State with or without the popular Yoruba rights activist, Sunday Adeyemo well known as Sunday Igboho.

Igboho had on Thursday suspended the Yoruba Nation rally in Lagos after the operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) stormed his residence in the Soka area in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

Similarly, EKO HOT BLOG had earlier reported that the Lagos State Police Command warned on Thursday that no rally will be allowed, under whatever guise, in any part of the metropolis.

The Command in a communique by the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Hakeem Olusegun Odumosu, warned the organisers and their followers against staging the planned rally and the need to stay clear of the streets of Lagos.

CP Odumosu stated that the warning was in the best interest of the state and the general public, adding that anyone caught participating or facilitating the rally will be dealt with within the ambits of the law.

However, the co-organisers of the Yoruba Nation rally have insisted they will proceed with the agitation in Lagos, vowing that no amount of intimidation will make them bow.

One of the co-organisers, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said the rally in Lagos will go on as planned.

While reacting to an inquiry after the police warned that no form of demonstration will be allowed in Lagos, he said, “What did you expect the Police to say? They are obeying the federal government. The Police told us not to hold the rally in Ogun and others but we did.

“It’s not compulsory that Sunday Igboho attends. I am telling you now that the Yoruba Nation rally will hold.

“The Ilana Omo Oodua under the leadership of Professor Akintoye already made it clear that we will come out,” the source stated.

It would be recalled that Sunday Igboho and other Yoruba Nation agitators had held rallies across the South-West geopolitical zone with that of Lagos scheduled for Saturday.
