Eko Hot Blog reports that Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Iormem Alia, has responded to the recent interest shown by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the All Progressives Congress (APC), stating that it is a desperate attempt by the PDP to remain relevant in the face of a productive government. He noted that during the 2023 general elections, the PDP had formed an alliance with the Labour Party (LP) instead of the APC.
Tersoo Kula, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Benue State, highlighted that the PDP’s frustration and resort to trivial matters stem from effective governance and the fulfillment of promises by the Alia-led administration. He emphasized the contrasting fortunes between the previous PDP-led government and the current APC government.

Governor Alia expressed his surprise at the sudden show of affection by the PDP towards the APC. He explained that opposition politics can be challenging when the incumbent government focuses on delivering its promises, leaving detractors scrambling to stay relevant.
The governor further pointed out that the PDP lacks substantial grounds to criticize his administration, as evident from the recent jubilation following the timely payment of salaries and pensions to civil servants and pensioners in Benue State. The Alia-led administration has brought smiles to the faces of those who were previously denied their entitlements by the PDP government.
Governor Alia emphasized that the jubilation signifies Benue’s departure from the era of the PDP, which the party fears to witness. He expected the PDP or its former member Samuel Ortom to acknowledge the governor’s efforts in filling the gaps left by their administration, but instead, they chose mischief and unnecessary controversy.
The governor reiterated that the Benue State House of Assembly operates independently from the executive arm of government and that the selection of legislative leaders is the constitutional right of the assembly members. The governor and the APC have limited control over this process, which involves multiple parties.
Governor Alia affirmed that the APC and his administration will continue to work together as a united family, while leaving the PDP to speculate and ponder their next move. He called for recognition and appreciation of his people-oriented policies, which have forced the PDP to focus on trivial issues.
