Your Seats Are Still Vacant, Fubara Tells Amaewhule, 24 Others
Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has sent a reminder to Speaker Martins Amaewhule and 24 other lawmakers that their seats in the state House of Assembly have been vacant since December 13.
Eko Hot Blog reports that Fubara, during a press conference in Benin City, the Edo State capital, dismissed the seven-day ultimatum given by the Amaewhule-led lawmakers to re-present the 2024 Appropriation Bill, stating his administration was already working on the 2025 Budget.
The governor emphasized that these lawmakers voluntarily defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), and therefore, their positions remain vacant.
Speaking at a solidarity visit from leaders and stakeholders of Etche and Omuma local government areas at Government House in Port Harcourt, Fubara said, “It has become imperative for us as representatives of our people in the State Government to draw the attention of the authorities and the members of the public to the plight of the Edo people and by extension the Nigerian people.”
He continued, “Despite our best efforts to mitigate the suffering that Edo people and Nigerians have been plunged into by the APC Government through various initiatives, the people are still going through untold hardship due to the gross mismanagement of the economy by the APC at the center in the last nine years.”

Addressing the lawmakers’ recent ultimatum, Fubara said, “We are not doing any budget to nullify that decision. It is what will send them to their villages.”
Fubara also noted that his administration is already preparing the 2025 Appropriation Bill, prioritizing education, healthcare, and agriculture.
He said, “Our children need to go to quality schools. Even if they can’t go to private schools, let them go to the public ones that have standards. We need to go to good health facilities owned by the government and get standard healthcare services.”
He added, “When we get to the issue of agriculture, it will address the issue of unemployment. When we start engaging our youths, they won’t have time to be involved in crime. So, our thinking is to secure and protect our State.”
The governor reiterated that his administration was not fighting anyone but standing for truth and justice, stating, “We are not going to rule this State on our bent knees. We will rule standing this way I am standing.”
Fubara urged the people of Etche Nation to sustain their support for his administration, emphasizing that their vision is clear and aims to advance the well-being of all Rivers people.
During the visit, the governor also addressed issues such as herdsmen attacks on farmlands, illegal dredging activities, and infrastructure development, promising to work with the Nigeria Police and relevant authorities to find lasting solutions.
In response, Oyeisi Etche, His Eminence, Eze Emmanuel Opurum, and the President-General of Ogbakor Etche Worldwide, Sir Charles Nwonuala, pledged their continued support for Governor Fubara, highlighting the need for collective efforts to resolve the political crisis in Rivers State.
