Eko Hot Blog reports that Ms Surah Animashaun, the Chairman of Epe local government, Lagos State, has assured residents of tight security amidst current global security challenges.
Animashaun gave the residents assurance during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Epe on Monday.
According to the LG boss, the protection of lives and properties in the council area is a top priority for her administration.
She assured residents that her administration would do everything possible to secure lives and properties in the ancient city.
“One of our primary responsibilities as a council is to protect the lives and properties of residents in our domain,” she said.
“The current global security challenges call for serious concern and we have to be very vigilant and be proactive to address the problem.
“Part of our proactive steps in the local government is to sensitive and enlighten our local vigilantees on adequate security in the community.
“The activities of Ibile local vigilantee group, Odua People’s Congress (OPC) and other security vigilantees are being regulated to ensure that they work inline with the government lay down rules.
“With the proactiveness of the local vigilantees and government security agencies, the cultist activities has reduce in Epe community, residents are now enjoying their peace and community stability.”
The council boss called for a more coordinated approach to address security challenges in Epe, to create the right environment for investment and development.
Animashaun also used the interview opportunity to reel out some of the achievements recorded by her administration so far in tourism, education, health, security, agriculture, Infrastructure, economy and other areas.
She added that security should be treated as everybody’s business.
Animashaun also urged residents to improve on intelligence gathering to assist security agencies in their operations.
“Intelligence gathering is a key component in security business, resident should volunteer useful information to help our operations,” the Epe LG chairman said.
“We should work together so that insecurity will be surmounted. See something and say something.
“So far, so good, the council has been enjoying cordial relationship with government security agencies to tackle security challenges within the community.”
The council boss prayed for one of the residents that lost his life in an unfortunate incident during the recent Sallah festival.
“May the departed soul rest in peace and may he find solace with his creator. Security in Epe is uncompromised,” Animashaun added.
