EKO HOT BLOG reports that in a recent turn of events, UK-based Nigerian vlogger, Emdee Tiamiyu, has found himself at the center of a heated debate after being accused of “selling out” Nigerians to the United Kingdom.

During the interview, Tiamiyu insinuated that many Nigerians were using the student route as a means to gain entry into the European nation.
In a subsequent interview with Daddy Freeze, a prominent Nigerian broadcaster, following the viral video of his BBC interview, Tiamiyu stood by his statements and defended his position. He stated that being real and truthful often leads to offending others, but emphasized the importance of finding a balance between honesty and diplomacy.
However, as of January 2024, the UK government has implemented a new law, preventing Nigeria and other foreign students studying in the UK from bringing their family members to the country as dependents, except under specific circumstances. This move is part of the UK’s broader efforts to reduce immigration, which currently stands at approximately one million individuals.
According to reports by Sky News, the new legislation also entails the removal of the ability for international students to switch from the student route to work routes before completing their studies, aiming to prevent the misuse of the visa system.
Emdee Tiamiyu’s remarks on the alleged misuse of the student route have ignited a passionate debate among Nigerians, both in the UK and abroad. While some individuals have expressed agreement with his stance, others have criticized him for what they perceive as a betrayal of his fellow countrymen.
