Controversial Nollywood actor Yul Edochie has spoken out against the abandonment of traditional African religion, claiming that many Africans are turning away from their roots out of fear of judgment from others.

He described African religion as powerful, rooted in truth, transparency, and fairness, and vowed never to abandon it.

“I will NEVER abandon the ways of my forefathers. It is built on truth, transparency, and fairness. I’m a Hardcore Traditionalist,” Yul wrote, sharing a picture of himself in traditional Igbo attire. He also gave himself Igbo titles, including ISI MMILI JI OFOR (The King of Warriors) and EZEDIKE 1 (King of Power).

The actor, who declared in 2024 that he was called by God to lead an online church, linked recent premature deaths in the country to the abandonment of traditional beliefs.

Edochie argued that people’s negligence and their choice to embrace foreign religions had angered the spirits that once protected them, contributing to the untimely deaths of youths in their twenties, thirties, and forties.

Edochie urged Africans to return to their “pure and powerful” traditions, emphasizing the importance of reconnecting with the beliefs of their ancestors.
