EKO HOT BLOG reports that veteran Nollywood actor, Yul Edochie has stated that hunger and poverty are responsible for the increasing ritual killings in Nigeria and not the movie industry.
The actor made this known in a post shared on his verified Instagram page, where he slammed people criticizing Nollywood for the increasing rate of ritual killings across the country.

According to the actor, he has been hearing about ritual killing in Nigeria during the eighties when he was a kid.
Recall that the lower chamber had on Wednesday accused movie producers of promoting ritual killings through their movies.
This followed the adoption of a motion of urgent public importance by Toby Okechukwu, the Deputy Minority Leader, at the plenary in Abuja.
Presenting the motion, Okechukwu said that incidents of ritual killings had assumed an alarming rate in Nigeria while decrying the upsurge of reported ritual killings, and abductions in different parts of the country.
Reacting to the claim, Yul Edochie opined that poverty and hunger are the main cause and not Nollywood.
To further buttress his position, the veteran actor said the movie industry portrays only what happens in society, adding that Nigerians are wallowing in extreme poverty.
In his word: “From when I was a kid in the eighties I started hearing about ritual killing in Nigeria. Then there was no Nollywood. Hunger and poverty make people to do crime. No be Nollywood cause am.
“Nollywood is only showing what happens in society. Nigerians are wallowing in extreme poverty. A hungry man is an angry man, fix the country and crime will go away. Don blame Nollywood.”
