Zulum Includes EFCC, ICPC, DSS in Borno Flood Relief Committee
Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum has formed a committee to oversee the distribution of relief funds and supplies for victims of recent severe flooding in the state.
In a statement released on Sunday by the Secretary to the State Government, Bukar Tijjani, it was announced that the committee will include representatives from key organizations such as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), and the Department of State Services (DSS) to ensure transparency in the distribution process.

The committee will be chaired by Baba Gujubawu, the Special Adviser on Monitoring and Evaluation, with Professor Ibrahim Umara from the University of Maiduguri serving as co-chairman. Other members include representatives from Civil Society Organizations, the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Jama’atul Nasril Islam (JNI), Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), development and humanitarian agencies, and His Royal Highness, the Shehu of Borno.
Governor Zulum urged the committee to perform its duties with dedication and transparency, highlighting the significance of their work in delivering relief to affected communities.
In support of the flood recovery efforts, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) is utilizing $3 million in funding from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) to assist flood victims across the country.

Additionally, the United States has ramped up its efforts to provide essential humanitarian aid to thousands displaced by the floods in Maiduguri and surrounding areas.
The flooding, which has displaced over 414,000 people and resulted in multiple fatalities, was caused by the overflow of the Alau Dam following heavy rainfall.
According to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), this flooding is the worst the region has faced in the past 30 years.
