The Nigerian troops Wednesday routed the rampaging Boko Haram sect in Yobe state killing at least 12 twelve insurgents.
Ekohotblog reports that the notorious insurgents met their waterloo in the hands of 159 Battalion, dispatched in Sector 2 of Operation LAFIYA Dole, after an imminent attack was foiled by the army formation involved in counterinsurgency operations in the Northeast, leading to the suffering of heavy casualties on the part of the fearsome sect.
According to military sources, the insurgents launched an onslaught with one vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (VBIED), a gun truck and an undisclosed number of foot soldiers but were successfully repelled by the troops.
Two soldiers were confirmed injured in the feisty engagement, with many terrorists suspected to have escaped with gunshot wounds.
A drone belonging to the military was damaged in the gun battle, as the soldiers equally destroyed the insurgents’ VBIED and gun truck, Peoples Gazette quoted the source to have said.
The troops also retrieved various equipment from the attackers, including one anti-aircraft gun, a general-purpose machine gun, 10 AK 47 rifles, one grenade and a variety of ammunition.
