Epe Zone emerged as the overall best-performing zone at the 21st Annual Merit Award Ceremony of Lagos State Government’s Education District III, held on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at Y-Arena Event Centre, Ikoyi.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the annual programme, themed “Driving Excellence in Education for National Development,” is designed to celebrate and reward outstanding educators, administrators, and schools for their contributions during the 2024/2025 academic session.
Hosted by the Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary (TGPS) of Education District III, Dr. (Mrs.) Ìdòwú Olufunke Oyetola, the ceremony drew the presence of Tutor-General/Permanent Secretaries from other districts, former TGPSs, the Permanent Secretary of TESCOM, the Chairman of the Lagos State Local Government Service Commission, Alhaji Kamal Bayewu, royal fathers, education stakeholders, and the Special Guest of Honour, Prince Tommy Eshinlokun Ogungbe.
Epe Zone excelled across seven categories, clinching awards for Best Senior Secondary School, Best Principal (Senior Category), Best H.O.D, Best Vice Principal, Best Teacher (Senior Category), Best Principal (Junior Category), Best Junior Secondary School, and Best Support Staff.

Among the awardees were Mr. Ajayi S.A, Mrs. Adebanjo Mutiat, Mrs. Itiolu B.A, Mr. Odedina James, Mrs. Akinsanya Morenikeji, Mr. Awonoiki Bolaji, Mrs. Babatunde Adeyinka, Mr. Gbodi Temitope, Ms. Fabiyi Oluwakemi, and Mr. Olushola Olusegun. Celebrated schools included Government Senior College, Ketu, Epe and Epe Senior Grammar School.
Speaking at the event, stakeholders commended the Lagos State Government for its continuous support to education.
“This recognition is not just about celebrating past successes but a call to sustain the momentum,” a statement read.
The ceremony reaffirmed Epe Zone’s reputation as a hub of educational excellence within Education District III.
