- Oloja sent chiefs to the market to announce the outcome, and traders later returned in jubilation to thank him.
The ancient town of Epe was filled with jubilation on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, as traders from the Oluwo International Fish Market celebrated the emergence of a new Iyalaje, Mrs. Omodudu Jumoke Ajimo of the Giwa family, Eyindi, Epe.
Eko Hot Blog reports that according to the Oloja of Epe, His Royal Majesty Oba Kamorudeen Ishola Animashaun, the selection was not a human decision but one directed by the spirit of Aje and confirmed by the Ifa Oracle in the presence of his chiefs and baales.
The monarch explained that on Monday, two different groups of market women came to his palace. At first, he thought they came for the same purpose, but later discovered they had different concerns.
In the middle of their discussion, the spirit of Aje revealed to him that the next Iyalaje was among three women present at the palace.
“Some chiefs and baales were seated with me when the market women came,” Oba Animashaun explained. “At first, I thought they all came together, but later I realized their missions were different.
While they were still with me, the spirit of Aje revealed that the new Iyalaje was among those women. I immediately ordered that the Ifa Oracle be consulted in the presence of everyone there.
The first person was rejected, but when it got to Mrs. Ajimo, the Oracle picked her without hesitation. It was repeated again and again, and each time she was confirmed.
She broke down crying because she didn’t want the position, but we told her she could not reject destiny.
I then instructed my chiefs to accompany her to the Oluwo Market and explain what had happened so that all the traders would know the truth.”
The following day, the traders of Oluwo Market, led by their Iyaloja, Alhaja Adeola Giwa, stormed the streets in a jubilant procession to the Oloja’s palace to thank him for his fatherly role and to celebrate the appointment of their new leader.

Alhaja Giwa expressed her gratitude to the monarch:
“Your Majesty, we are grateful for your wisdom and the love you continue to show us. The entire market is overjoyed, and we pray that your reign will be long, healthy, and prosperous.”
The newly chosen Iyalaje, Mrs. Omodudu Ajimo, recalled the shock she felt when her name was repeatedly chosen by the Oracle.
“Last Sunday, six people suddenly fell under spiritual influence in our market. This worried us and led us to the Oloja’s palace for direction.
To my greatest surprise, when the Oracle was consulted three times, I was chosen each time. I never desired the role and was not interested, but when the Oracle confirms you, you cannot refuse.
I am very grateful to our royal father, the chiefs, and all the traders of Oluwo Market for their love and support.”
Another trader, Iya Aisat, described the extraordinary events that preceded the consultation.
“When the spirit of Aje entered, the locked gate of the market broke open, and the waterside suddenly turned white as if covered in mist.
People began falling, seeing visions, and speaking things beyond their understanding. That was when we knew something serious had happened,” she explained.
The selection of Mrs. Ajimo has restored leadership to Oluwo Market after years without an Iyalaje, and traders say they believe her reign will bring prosperity, unity, and peace.
