According to the Command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, who confirmed the incident on Sunday, the suspects even demanded ransom from the victims’ families, pretending the men were still alive.
“The herbalist was arrested on October 23, 2025, after days of surveillance, while hiding inside a refrigerator in his shrine at Owa-Alidima,” Edafe said.
He added that detectives later exhumed the decomposing bodies from the septic tank, as the victims’ families called for justice.

Investigations revealed that the late Friday Liberty had been a regular client of the herbalist, frequently visiting him for “spiritual assistance” allegedly aimed at influencing others for financial gain.
“However, on September 30, 2025, Liberty visited the shrine and never returned. His girlfriend later disclosed a conversation linking him to the herbalist,” Edafe said.
The herbalist initially denied any involvement but allegedly tricked the victim’s family by offering to perform “spiritual incantations” to locate him collecting money in the process.
When his deception failed, the family petitioned the police on October 14, 2025, prompting an intelligence-led investigation that exposed the crime.
Upon arrest, Amechi confessed to conspiring with his 26-year-old brother to kidnap and murder Liberty and the motorcyclist.
“They lured both men to the shrine, demanded ₦10 million ransom, and when it failed, they killed them, butchered their bodies, and dumped the remains in a soakaway pit,” Edafe said.
He further disclosed that the motive stemmed from financial pressure, as Smart had urged his younger brother to target one of his clients for ransom.
Edafe condemned the act, describing it as “barbaric and senseless,” and assured that the Command would ensure justice is served.
“The suspects are in custody, and the victims’ remains have been deposited for autopsy. The full weight of the law will take its course,” he said.
