The detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has filed a N550 million lawsuit against the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) and 10 medical practitioners over what he describes as a falsified medical report issued against him.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the fresh suit was confirmed on Friday by one of Kanu’s lawyers, Barrister Maxwell Opara, in a video posted on his Facebook page.

Opara stated that the action became necessary after the defence team discovered that the medical report presented in court was allegedly fabricated without any proper medical examination, despite a clear directive from the court mandating the NMA to carry out a formal evaluation on Kanu.

The controversy surrounding the report had first surfaced in October 2025 when Kanu’s legal representatives accused the NMA of submitting a document dated October 13, long after the court’s order.
According to Kanu’s Special Counsel, Barrister Aloy Ejimakor, the delayed submission left the defence team without sufficient time to study or respond to its contents, describing the situation as “an ambush.”
Ejimakor further disclosed that although the court ordered the NMA to conduct a comprehensive examination on September 26, which was restated on October 8, the association never carried out the assessment.

Instead, he claimed the report was based on informal interactions with Kanu at the Department of State Services (DSS) headquarters on September 18—an approach he argued did not meet the requirements of the court’s directive.
Opara added that the disputed report influenced the court’s decision to deny Kanu bail, prompting the legal team to demand clarification from the NMA and the involved doctors. He said their refusal to respond or show remorse led to the filing of the new suit.
Kanu, who has remained in DSS custody since June 2021 following his return to Nigeria and ongoing trial on charges related to terrorism and treasonable felony.
