Nigerian rap star Olamide has stirred fresh controversy in the music scene after declaring Grammy-winning singer Wizkid as the greatest Afrobeats artiste after the late legend, Fela Kuti.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the YBNL boss made the remark during a press session in Canada, where he reflected on his long-standing creative relationship with Wizkid.

Olamide said he considers himself fortunate to have collaborated with Wizkid multiple times over the years, noting that their partnership has always been driven by artistic chemistry rather than industry leverage.

He said their bond dates back to 2011, producing hits such as Kana and earlier joint records that helped shape the modern Afrobeats sound.
The rapper’s declaration has since ignited conversations across social media, with fans debating the hierarchy of Afrobeats greats. While Olamide’s comment earned applause from the audience in Canada, online reactions have been more divided.
His remarks come weeks after Burna Boy described himself as the greatest African artiste after Fela, while Davido has repeatedly crowned himself the “King of Afrobeats.” These claims have fueled an ongoing rivalry among fan bases of the three stars.

Olamide, however, maintained that Wizkid’s global success and influence place him directly after Fela in the genre’s historical ranking. He emphasized that Wizkid’s consistency and international reach have helped push Afrobeats into global recognition.
The debate over who truly leads the genre continues to dominate conversations online, with supporters of Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy defending their favourites as Afrobeats’ top figure.
