The Lagos State government has emphasised the need for sustainable solutions to climate change, waste management, and environmental degradation during the 2025 Environmental Bees Club (EBC) Members and Handlers’ Sensitisation Programme held over the weekend in Alausa.
Eko Hot Blog reports that Dr Tajudeen Gaji, Permanent Secretary of the Office of Environmental Services, highlighted the importance of awareness and personal responsibility in addressing environmental challenges.

Represented by Mrs Monsurat Banire, Director of the Environmental Education Unit, he said the programme aims to inspire action and transform mindsets by engaging young people as agents of change in environmental stewardship.
A key feature of the event was the Eco-Winner Sustainability Tour, which encourages participants to promote sustainability in schools and communities. The initiative rewards students who demonstrate excellence and innovation in environmental commitment.
The Lagos State government reaffirmed its dedication to policies and programmes that promote environmental sustainability, stressing the importance of collective responsibility in building a resilient and sustainable Lagos.

Dr Gaji commended EBC handlers, primarily teachers, for translating environmental education into practical impact and bridging the gap between policy and implementation. He urged students to use the knowledge gained as a foundation for creating tomorrow’s solutions.
Mrs Esther Olaleye, Deputy Director in the Environmental Education Unit, noted that the programme is designed not only to educate participants but also to inspire action within schools, communities, and beyond. This year’s edition brought together participants from all six Education Districts, enabling wider participation and greater impact.
During the training, Dr Lasisi Adedoyin, Deputy Director in the Environmental Assessment Department, delivered a lecture titled “Understanding Healthy and Sustainable Environment”. He explained climate change as the long-term average conditions in a region and discussed mitigation measures to prevent adverse effects, as well as adaptation strategies to adjust to environmental changes.
The programme concluded with the presentation of prizes to outstanding students, while all participants received attractive rewards for their engagement and contributions.
