Tragedy struck in Abuja after a 23-year-old woman, Grace Godwin, was abducted and murdered by suspected “one chance” operators.

Her lifeless body was discovered the next morning on Abubakar Street, off Alex Ekwueme Street, in the Jabi area of the Federal Capital Territory.
The news of her brutal murder has sent shockwaves through her family and community, especially after a misleading online post misrepresented the circumstances of her death.
Comrade Adanu Andrew, President of the Voice of Apa and Agatu Initiative for Development, confirmed her identity and condemned the spread of false information online.
He stated that Grace was from Ekaida in Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State and was a disciplined, hardworking woman with no links to the hookup narrative circulating on social media.

“Contrary to what was posted on Facebook, she didn’t go for a hookup,” Andrew said. “She was kidnapped by a ‘one chance’ vehicle after closing from work.”
According to him, the criminals contacted Grace’s family and demanded a ransom of N1 million, but before the payment could be processed, her body was found dumped.
He added that the viral falsehood online caused additional pain to her grieving family, who were struggling to raise the ransom money.
“She was honest and focused, not the type to engage in such acts. Her loss is deeply painful, especially because it could have been avoided,” Andrew said.
He urged security operatives in the FCT to intensify efforts in tackling the “one chance” menace that continues to endanger lives across Abuja.
“One chance” refers to criminals who disguise as commercial drivers to rob, abduct, or harm unsuspecting passengers.
The tragic incident has reignited public calls for better policing and protection of commuters, especially women, in Nigeria’s capital.
