The Lagos State government, under Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has announced that at least 3,000 cows are slaughtered daily to meet the food demands of residents.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that this information was revealed by Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, during an appearance on Channels Television on Tuesday, October 1, 2024.

Hamzat, speaking on the programme titled ‘Nigeria’s Challenging Economy: Strategies for Recovery,’ which was part of the celebrations for Nigeria’s 64th Independence anniversary, stated: “We are developing a logistics hub in Imota, the largest in this region. This hub will allow us to track livestock entering Lagos.”

He continued, “Interestingly, Lagos slaughters around 3,000 cows every day. The question is, where are they coming from, and how can we monitor them? Currently, if any issues arise, our veterinary doctors handle it by slaughtering and disposing of the affected cows, but we need to improve this system.”

Additionally, Hamzat shared the state government’s plans to stockpile grains for Lagos residents, ensuring a supply that would last at least nine months.
