- It is not how long we live but how well we live. This was the core message at the 40th Day Fidau prayer of late Dr Tajudeen Kadri at the Lagos Island Secretariat, 173 Adeniji Adele, Lagos.
Dr Kadri, the founder and first President of Eko Club New Jersey, who died on Dec 5th, 2021 and had been buried according to Islamic rites no doubt lived an exemplary life; a life worthy of emulation.
There were no shortage of tributes and encomiums attesting to the life he lived, the lives he touched, as well as various causes he championed in his lifetime.
The presence of Eko Club International members from London, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, New Jersey and California speak volumes and attested to the life of impact he lived.

A true Lagosian, Dr Kadir’s love and commitment to the development of Lagos was unequalled and will always be applauded.
The deceased wife, Mrs Remi Kadiri, who spoke with EKO HOT BLOG at the event, described her late husband as a very good and dedicated man.
“My husband was a very good and dedicated husband. We were married for forty-two years, and it has been a blissful home until his death.
“He’s been able to leave behind a lot of legacies, which I have to continue, there are really a lot to do and I trust God to give me the strength.
“It’s always good to have families around you, for the support and strength at all times, I feel at home and I feel welcomed, I’m just so emotional looking at everybody but there is absolutely nothing one could do,” she said.
One of the deceased daughters, Dupe Kadri, who extolled the late Kadri as an Angel God blessed her with, said it breaks her heart so much each time she remembers that her dad is no more.
“Mr Kadri was my father and I loved him so much; we had a very close relationship. It just breaks my heart this is happening, but such is life and it’s something we all have to deal with.
“My father and I had so many memories together and this I will always think about in the times to come. I’m honoured to have him as my father and I know he loves me very much, I hope I could still fulfil all the dreams he had.
“He had always wanted us to live life, go out, be the best that we can be, do whatever we know we can do to survive, go to school, be educated and keep learning. I’ll miss him so much and I pray he continues to rest in the bosom of the Lord,” she said.
The Apesin of Ijora land, Hon Segun Onitoolo, a member of Eko Club International New Jersey described the demise of late Dr Kadri as a great loss to all the EKO CLUB International family.
He said, “Uncle Kadri was like an uncle to me, and he was the pioneer of one of the clubs I belong to, EKO CLUB International New Jersey. He was our Life President and his death really is a great loss to us, but what can we do than to thank the Almighty God for a life well spent.
“For the family, I pray to God to uphold them and that his death will neither bring hardship nor sorrow to the family”
A President Emeritus, EKO CLUB INTERNATIONAL, and Publisher of EKO HOT BLOG, Otunba TJ Abass, in his speech, said the late Dr Kadri lived an exemplary life that is worth emulating.
He said, “Today we are here for the 40th day Fidau prayer of an outstanding true Lagosian, who is also the founder of EKO CLUB International New Jersey. He passed away on 5th December and has since been buried according to Islamic rite. So this is our time to say goodbye to him, to appreciate the life that he lived; an exemplary life and a life worth emulating.
“There is no doubt that he loved Lagos State; there is no doubt that he was unapologetic for his passion and commitment towards the advancement of Lagos State. And everything that he did was part of the sermon given to us here today when the Imam was admonishing us to live a wonderful life because what we do while alive is what would be said of us when we are no more and that is what legacy is all about.
“Legacy is about living a good life so that when you die people will say good things about you, and our life is like a diary where we keep a chronicle of events that occurred in our life. Our brother, no doubt, lived a wonderful life, a life people will continue to talk about.
“What I tell people each time I have an opportunity is, of course, death is inevitable, but it’s not always about how long we live but how well we live and living a life worthy of emulation, and I pray that Dr Kadri will continue to rest in peace.
“One thing about the family is that he was well-loved. He was loved by his wife, he was loved by his children, and they stood by him in difficult times. The only thing I can tell them is to keep up with what they’ve been doing while he was alive – the life of love, the life of togetherness, the life of unity, live of selflessness because Mr Kadri was an epitome of selflessness and the only thing I can tell his wife is to continue in that legacy and I pray God to be with them and guide them all.”
