US Blacklists Nigeria For Religious Freedom Violations

The United States has added Nigeria to a blacklist on religious freedom, exposing the West African country to potential sanctions if it does not improve its record.

US Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo designated the Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” for religious freedom, alongside nations that like China, Iran, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.

“Today the U. S. designates Burma, China, Eritrea, Iran, Nigeria, the DPRK, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan as countries of concern under the International Religious Freedom Act of 1998 for engaging systematic, ongoing, egregious religious freedom violations,” he wrote in a tweet on Monday.
