By Babatunde Kaka.
The executives of Poka Development Youths Association under the leadership of Mr Lamina Hammed held the 100 days in office account of stewardship in the office at the Poka Town Hall premises.
The event, which was sparsely attended by youths in the community on the heels of complying with the Lagos State Government COVID 19 protocols, had the completion of the existing community town hall central to discussions.
While addressing the gathering, the Alade Uraka of Poka Kingdom, Oba Kolawole Aliru, described activities of the youths towards the community in the past 100 days as laudable and astonishing. He singled out the fact that the leadership of the youths kept to their promise in terms of managing the town hall premises by stumping out trees and cutting the bushes regularly for the benefit of all.
“On the occasion of the 100 days in office celebration, your resolve to make the revival of the town hall top priority is highly commendable. I give glory to Almighty God that 100 days ago, my prayers for this administration are being answered because whenever I ply this road, I stop by to check around the town hall premises. I discovered that it is being regularly cut. As at when I ascended the throne of my for fathers, the premises was very bushy, it was impossible to gain access.
“Whenever Government officials opt to pay an on the spot assessment visit, I’d make arrangements for the clearing and stumping to pave way for construction work but we are still hopeful of the completion.
“The model for constructing Town halls presently is no fluke and we hope to get assistance from the Government so it will be easier for us to take it up.
No doubt about the fact that I am the king but I can’t forcefully acquire the common patrimony of various families all for erecting a town hall.
“By God’s grace, I’m intensifying efforts to seek the support of the government. Also, I’m reaching out to all our well-meaning sons and daughters abroad to make the town hall reconstruction a reality just like that of other communities.
“I always feel embarrassed about going to other communities nearby before we can carry out community functions. I’m immensely appreciative of the numerous efforts of Poka Youths and they have in me their pillar of support “, Kabiesi said.
Oba Kolawole urged the youths not to relent in making sure the town hall premises is properly taken care of. He also admonished the youths to coexist peacefully noting how amazed he was at the resolve of the youths to comply with the Lagos State Government COVID 19 protocols by having the event celebrated on a low key.
Ekohotblog in an interview with the Secretary to Eredo LCDA, Hon. Wale Salau, gathered that the community is working closely with the youth body to synergies capable of having a common voice which will attract invaluable supports from both the public and private sectors.
” As a member of the community, we are making frantic efforts to reach out to our sons and daughters both within and outside the country to make sure we put this project behind us. I can assure you that there will be much difference compared to what is on the ground when next this place is visited.
“We are not relenting in our efforts to build synergy among the youths and the palace so that we can push the same agenda to attract better results from outsiders, particularly the Government and private sector to come to the aid of the community to have a befitting town hall “, he said.
