A former Speaker of Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Adeyemi Sabit Ikofuriji has applauded the spirit of community exhibited by sons and daughters of Epe during this year’s kayokayo festival.
Ikofuriji spoke during the lighting of the Etufu during this year’s kayokayo festival, a symbolic ritual of the festival which delineates King Kosoko’s arrival in Epe Division in 1851.
“The message in the drama is of utmost importance. We’ve always hammered on this and there is no doubt about the fact that unity is all that is needed for the progress of the socio-economic development of this our beloved town. Really, it is indeed a powerful message and we will continue to push for unity.”
Commending the concerted efforts exhibited by sons and daughters of Epe, particularly with regard to contributions made towards the success of the festival, Ikofuriji said the measure of resources pooled from meagre stipends by members of the community is indicative of the power of togetherness and cohesion.
“This year for example is the first time the program is being sponsored by the entire populace. Before now, we used to call on well-known, particularly, political leaders in the society to sponsor the program, but the innovation came in and it is something that is heartwarming. People contributed as little as 5,000 Naira, 10,000 Naira and at the end of the day, they got millions of Naira, which is being channelled into good use.”
The lawmaker noted that Epe Division has been on a glide ride of infrastructural development in the last decade and continues to show promising signs of consolidating upon this laudable trajectory.

“If you were here 10 years ago and you are here today, you will definitely see some measure of development. But of course, we are not satisfied because we know we are not there yet but we know we will get there. It is a question of time because we know that with the efforts of well-meaning indigenes of Epe and the support of the Government of Lagos, we will get there,” Ikuforiji stated.
