Police Arrest Suspected Kidnapper, Fraudsters in Bauchi

Ekohotblog reports that the Bauchi State Police Command has announced the arrest of a member of a gang of alleged kidnappers who sought and received a N2 million ransom from their victim.

It also announced that it had apprehended two scammers who had defrauded their victims out of N950,000.

The command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, revealed this in a press release he signed and made available to newsmen in Bauchi.

The police spokesman, a Superintendent of Police (SP), stated that police officers, in cooperation with members of a vigilante group, apprehended one Abdulhamid Isah, who plotted with others at large to abduct the son of one Sule Ori and demand and collect N2 million as ransom.

According to Wakil, “A team of policemen in collaboration with vigilante group arrested one Abdulhamid Isah aged 25yrs of Kaura Kafai Toro LGA who conspired with others now at large armed with Ak-47 rifles and other dangerous weapons, stormed the house of one Sule Ori and kidnapped his son to unknown destination, demanded and collected the sum of two million (2,000,000) naira as ransom.

“During the course of investigation the suspect confessed to the crime. Investigation is on progress, effort is being intensified to arrest the remaining accomplices.”

In another operation by operatives of the command, the PPRO informed that two fraudsters, Hussaini Shittu (30) and Bashir Ibrahim (34), fraudulently obtained the sum of N550,000 from one Tanimu Akawu and Alhaji Isah Bature on the pretext that they would supply local rice to them but absconded with the money.

The suspected fraudsters also fraudulently obtained the sum of N400,000 from one Alhaji Jakada of Ganjuwa Local Government and also collected some bags of maize from one Hajiya Lami.

The police spokesman stated that the suspects also stole two motorcycles belonging to one Safiyanu Aliyu of 33 Artillery Brigade, Shadawanka Barracks in Bauchi.

“On interrogation, the suspects voluntarily confessed to the crime.
Investigation is in progress, after which the suspects will be charged to court for prosecution,” SP Wakil stated.
