EKO HOT BLOG reports that President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered Nigeria’s security and intelligence agencies to intensify the clampdown on illegal refineries across the country to safeguard the lives of citizens.
This is as he commiserated with the families and the community of the people who lost their lives in the unfortunate gas explosion that hit an illegal refinery at Abaezi community in Ohaji Egbema local government area of Imo State.
In his reaction to the bloody incident, President Buhari described the explosion and the resulting deaths as a national disaster, directing the armed forces and other security agencies, particularly the secret service, to tighten their grip on illegal refineries in the country
According to a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, the President said the sponsors of the illegal refinery “must all be caught and made to face justice” for the loss of lives and property
“President Muhammadu Buhari has directed the nation’s armed forces, security, and intelligence agencies to step up their crackdown on illegal refineries following the reported deaths of tens of people Friday night after an illegal refinery exploded at Abaezi forest in the Ohaji-Egbema Local Government Area of Imo State,” the statement read.

In expressing “the full depth and range of the nation’s shock and trauma” to the victims’ families, the Ohaji Egbema community, and the government and people of Imo State, the President urged community leaders, police, and the secret service to never allow the heartbreaking incident to happen again in any part of the country.
