1. Falana demands release of Agba Jalingo
Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, SAN, on Saturday demanded the immediate and unconditional release of Cross River activist and journalist, Agba Jalingo, from police detention.
The PUNCH had on Friday reported the men of the Nigeria Police Force detained the journalist at Alapere Police Station, Lagos State.
In a statement on Saturday titled ‘Release Agba Jalingo now!’, Falana claimed that the activist was being detained for an offence which is not under any provision of the criminal code.
2. Dogara petitions IGP over ‘murder plot’
A former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, has petitioned the Inspector General of Police, Alkali Usman, over an attempt to kill him by one of his constituents.
He also alleged that three other people including the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria, in Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area of Bauchi State are also being targeted.
Dogara, who represents Dass/Tafawa Balewa/Bogoro Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, disclosed this in a petition addressed to the IGP, which was obtained by our correspondent in Bauchi on Saturday night.
The letter was also copied to the National Security Adviser; the Director General, Department of State Services; the Commissioner of Police, Bauchi State and the Director, Department of State Services, Bauchi State.
3. Tackle criminals with acquired skills, COAS urges cadets
The Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Faruk Yahaya, has charged Army Cadets of Regular Course 69 of the Nigerian Defence Academy to deploy their newly acquired combat skills and competencies to surmount security challenges in the country.
He also urged them as junior commanders to add value to ongoing operational efforts to restore peace and security in troubled parts of the country.
According to a statement on Saturday by the Director, Army Public Relations Brig Gen Onyema Nwachukwu, Yahaya spoke as the Special Guest of Honour at the Battle Inoculation phase of Exercise Camp Highland, which wrapped up final exercises for the Army cadets, before passing out of the prestigious Academy later in October this year.

Former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo on Saturday expressed dissatisfaction with the unauthorized report of his discussion with the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential candidate, Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu on Wednesday.
Obasanjo, through a statement by his Special Assistant on Media, Kehinde Akinyemi, said the statement coming from those claiming to be supporters of Bola Tinubu are unhelpful.
The former President said the discussion during the visit was “more brotherly than political”, and at the request of Bola Tinubu, Chief Obasanjo agreed to no statement from either side.
“Those claiming to be insiders at the meeting issuing statement on the discussion and those crediting to me statement I had not made are enemies of the visitor and are not doing the visit any good”, said Obasanjo.
5. Paris Club Refund: We are owed $68m not $418m, says Nwoko
Mr Ned Nwoko, the Lead Consultant for the recovery of over deductions from Paris and London clubs debt buy back funds, says his firm was being owed only 68million dollars not 418million dollars.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Nwoko was reacting to the flurry of allegations and claims trailing his company’s demand for the payment of fees from the state governments and local government councils in the country, on Saturday in Abuja.
The Lead Consultant of Linas International, frowned at the recent outbursts of the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF), Gov. Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti, regarding the Paris Club refund.
The Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, had featured at the weekly briefings coordinated by the Presidential Media Team, on Aug. 11, where he spoke extensively on issues surrounding the refund.
6. Teenager invents robot working with exoskeleton remote control in Kano
A 17-year-old boy in Kano State, Isah Auwal-Barde, has invented a robot that works with robotic exoskeleton remote control.
Exoskeleton remote control is a system of controlling a robot by the person operating it through demonstration with parts of his body.
Auwal-Barde told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in an interview on Saturday that he grew up with passion of creativity.
He explained that he graduated from Government Secondary School (GSS), Sabuwar-Kofa, Kano, in 2021, and obtained seven credits in science subjects in the West African Examination Council (WAEC).

7. Civil servants task FG on adequate sensitization, transparency on NHF
Mr Isaac Ighure, a former Editor-in-Chief of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), has called for more enlightenment for civil servants on the National Housing Fund for more workers’ benefit from the scheme.
Ighure, a retired civil servant, in a telephone interview with NAN on Saturday in Lagos, also called for review of mortgage policies due to inflation to accommodate low income civil servants.
He said he retired seven years ago but had to use heavy interest commercial bank loans while in service to purchase a government bungalow in Abuja because of inadequate information.
He lamented that upon completion of 35 years of meritorious service to the nation, he got an NHF refund of about N500 which he joked could hardly buy good quality pepper soup.

9. Why we arrested Agba Jalingo in Lagos, moved him to Abuja – Police
The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has said that Cross River activist and journalist, Agba Jalingo is currently in its custody.
Recall that Agba Jalingo on Friday afternoon, raised the alarm that his Lagos residence was under siege by police operatives.
Subsequent reports revealed that the activist was arrested and detained at Alapere Police Station, Lagos shortly after the alarm.
Confirming the arrest, the FCT police command, in a statement issued by its spokesperson, DSP Josephine Adeh, said the arrest was sequel to a petition filed against the activist by one Elizabeth Frank Ayinde.
10. NIS donates N4m to family of slain officer in Jigawa
Nigeria Immigration Service has donated N4 million to the family of its officer killed by bandits in Jigawa State.
Controller General, Idris Isa Jere disclosed this while consoling the families of the victims.
DAILY POST reported that bandits had attacked immigration officers, killing one and injuring two others in the Birniwa Local Government area of Jigawa State.
CIA Abdullahi Mohammed was killed and the two other officers sustained bullet injuries in the attack along Maigatari Gaaladi road less than 3 kilometers to Nigeria and Niger border.
The CG said the NIS is proud of the sacrifice made by the three gallant officers.
