1. Release Kanu, South-East Reps caucus urges Buhari
The South-East Caucus in the House of Representatives has urged the President. Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), to act like a statesman and consider a political solution to the issues surrounding the leader of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu.
Members of the caucus, who made the call across party lines in a statement issued on Tuesday, said the recent judgment by the Court of Appeal freeing Kanu was a window for the Buhari-led regime to consider political resolution of its issues with the IPOB leader.
The South-East Caucus made the call in a statement titled ‘Nnamdi Kanu’s Trial: Time to Win Peace,’ which was signed by the Deputy Majority Whip of the House, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha; and Deputy Minority Leader, Toby Okechukwu.
2. Hemp: Voice told me to stab victims – Artisan
A 23-year-old artisan based in Iwo, Osun State, Abdulafeez Shorinmade, has said it is a voice that ordered him to stab two ladies in Kajola area of the town, shortly after he smoked Indian hemp.
While one of the victims died as a result of the injury she sustained after the attack that occurred on Wednesday, October 12, 2022, the other only sustained injury and was treated at a hospital in Iwo.
Abdulafeez, who is a barber, had used a pair of scissors to stab one Rofiyat Rasaki, aged 17, at Kajola area of Iwo, leaving her to bleed to death, before attacking another female teenager, Sawiyu Nasrup, at Soba compound before he was eventually apprehended.
3. Pantami, govs assemble for Abuja broadband tech awareness
State governors in Nigeria are set to discuss how to empower the citizens with the latest telecommunications technologies as they partake in the maiden edition of the Broadband Technical Awareness Forum for Governors, put together by the Nigerian Communications Commission and slated for Thursday in Abuja.
According to a Tuesday statement by the NCC’s Director of Public Affairs, Reuben Muoka, the programme, which takes place at the Congress Hall of the Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja on October 20, 2022, and themed: “State Broadband Coordinating Councils: Potentials and Possibilities,” will appraise the Nigerian National Broadband Plan 2020-2025, which targets 70 per cent broadband penetration and to cover 90 per cent of the population.
With the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Ali Pantami, playing host to the historic and seminal assemblage of governors under the auspices of the Nigerian Governors Forum, some strategic members of State Executive Council, telecom operators, infrastructure companies, strategic partners, investors and other critical stakeholders, will brainstorm on how Nigeria can achieve the expectations of the Nigeria’s digital economy agenda.

4. Body of kidnapped man found, as bandits attack Katsina community, kill 3, abduct 3
The lifeless body of one of the three victims kidnapped by bandits early hours of Sunday in Malumfashi Local Government Area, Katsina State has been found along the Yammama-Kaita road early hours of Monday.
The deceased, identified as Alhaji Saminu Gambo Gora was kidnapped from his residence in Gora Village along with two others from Dayi Community on Saturday by the assailants.
However, the whereabout of the two other victims is still unknown as their captives are yet to communicate with any member of their family or associates to make their demands known.
Among the two kidnapped victims still at large is Hyginius Ugo Ejike also known as “Yellow,” a businessman who specializes primarily in the sales of building materials in Dayi community.
5. FG sets 9 developmental targets to achieve before May 2023
The Federal Government has listed nine priority areas for its developmental target ahead of May 29, 2023 terminal date of the President Muhammadu Buhari administration.
Consequently, as part of measures to achieve set targets, the Executive and Legislature are to deemphasize separation of powers and focus on collaboration and cooperation in the nation’s interest.
The priority areas include the commissioning of some projects like the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, the 2nd Niger bridge, and Kaduna-Kano highway and a 70,000 housing project in Zuba, a suburb of the Federal Capital Territory FCT, Abuja.
The targets were part of the recommendations from various panel discussions at the two-day ministerial performance review which held at the presidential villa in Abuja.
6. FG backs OPEC decision to cut oil production
The Minister of State Petroleum Resources, Chief Timipre Sylva has backed the decision of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) to cut two million barrels of crude oil production, saying that it was a unanimous one.
The decision taken by OPEC and its partners in their last meeting at the beginning of the month is expected to take effect in November.
So far Nigeria has been unable to meet its oil production quota of 1.8 million barrels per day due to activities of oil thieves and pipeline vandals.
Chief Sylva in a statement in Abuja yesterday explained that the decision on production cut was taken to stabilize the market and not for any ulterior motives
