The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), on Monday, described the founder of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, as a businessman who has “given new heights to Nigeria’s prestige” as he turns 66.
Buhari’s birthday message is contained in a statement signed by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, titled ‘President Buhari greets Dangote on his birthday, commends him for giving the nation a good image.’
“Hearty congratulations and best wishes to the illustrious businessman Aliko Dangote on his birthday.
“He has given new heights to Nigeria’s prestige and global reputation.
2. Council cautions Bauchi religious leaders against inciteful sermons
The Bauchi State Security Council has warned that it will not allow religious leaders to incite and divide the people which may lead to crises in the state.
The Chairman of the Council and Secretary to the Bauchi State Government, Ibrahim Kassim, who briefed journalists at the end of the meeting held at the Government House on Monday, said two major issues threatening the relative peace in the state were discussed.
He said the council discussed the resurgence of young armed thugs popularly called “Sara Suka” who are attacking innocent residents as well as looting their properties.
Kassim said that the recent preaching by an Islamic scholar in the state during a Ramadan Tafsir, which he claimed, generated a lot of heat, reactions and counter-preachings, was also discussed extensively.
3. Buhari mourns Briggs, says ex-UNIPORT VC lived for humanity’s good
The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), on Monday, described the departed ex-Vice Chancellor of University of Port-Harcourt, Prof. Nimi Briggs, as an academic who lived for the good of the country and humanity.
He also condoled with his surviving family, urging them to keep the professor emeritus’ legacy alive.
Buhari’s condolence message is contained in a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, titled ‘President Buhari consoles family of late Emeritus Professor of Medicine, Prof Nimi Briggs, 79’.
According to a statement by his family, Prof Briggs passed away in the early hours of Easter Monday, 2023, aged 79 years.

4. 10th Senate President: Ndoma-Egba urged not to work against South-South
THE former Senate leader, Victor Ndoma-Egba has been cautioned by a South-South Solidarity Group for Senate President 2023, to desist from trading away chances of South-South to produce the next Senate President
Ndoma-Egba was reported to have called on the national ruling party, APC, to zone the senate presidency to the South East on a private television.
The clamor for who to become the next senate President has recently heightened as many of the geopolitical zones of the country have indicated interest for the office to be zoned to them in the 10th session.
5. Bauchi APC youths pass no-confidence vote on Party Chair
A group under the aegis of “Concerned All Progressives Congress APC Youth Progressive Movement” has passed a vote of no confidence on the Bauchi state APC Chairman, Alh. Babayo Aliyu, and consequently called on the President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and National Chairman of the party, Senator Abdullahi Adamu to urgently look into the affairs of the Bauchi state chapter of the party.
National Coordinator of the group, Comrade Abdullahi Dauda Little who signed a letter to that effect recalled that the group had after the February 25 Presidential and National Assembly elections written Adamu on the “need to look into the affairs of Bauchi State APC to nip in the bud the turbulence brewing to avert the mistakes of the post-election in other to make redress in the coming Gubernatorial and House of Assembly election”.
According to the group, the greatest challenge faced by Tinubu in his journey to the presidency “was neither from the dead Peoples Democratic Party nor the Labour Party but from within our own party”.
6. Insecurity: Buhari leaving Nigeria far better than he met it – Presidency
The Presidency last night said that President Muhammadu Buhari will be leaving Nigeria better than he met it in 2015 in terms of security and economic situation.
The Presidency also defended President Buhari on his alleged lopsided appointments of security heads in the past eight years, saying that appointment of service chiefs and heads of security agencies cannot be subjected to ethnic balancing or federal character.
President Buhari will be exiting office next month, precisely May 29 after completing eight years of two terms.
