Tinubu Rejects Move To Impose Senate President
  • In a move to antagonize the President-elect as the May 29 hand over date draws ever near, Peter Obi Support Group fuels the citizenship narrative against Bola Tinubu.

  • The group has called on the former Lagos State Governor to address the dual citizenship allegations against him.

  • This comes from a statement issued on Monday in connection to a picture shared by David Hundeyin.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Peter Obi Support Network (POSN) has called on President-elect Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to address allegations of dual citizenship.

The Peter Obi Support group issued a statement on Monday urging Tinubu to clarify the issue, which emerged after journalist David Hundeyin shared a picture of what he claimed was the bio-page of a Guinea Conakry passport belonging to the former Lagos State governor.

The document reportedly carried Tinubu’s photograph and was issued in 2015, expiring in October 2020.

Tinubu is said to have a close relationship with Guinean President Alpha Conde, and claimed credit for helping Conde secure re-election in 2015.

The POSN argues that the alleged dual citizenship could put Tinubu’s presidential mandate at risk, as Nigerian law prohibits political office holders from holding dual citizenship.

The group cites Section 56 of the Penal Code, which states that “whoever…makes any statement…which is false in a material particular and which he either knows or believes to be false…is said to give false evidence.”

The POSN statement also alleges that Tinubu did not disclose his Guinean citizenship in documents submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the recent presidential election.

The group argues that any office holder with dual citizenship risks losing their mandate according to Nigerian law. As a result, the POSN has called on Tinubu to address the allegations and clear the air, stating that his alleged presidential mandate is “controversial” given the issue of dual citizenship.
