Eko Hot Blog reports that Jimmy Buffett, the American singer-songwriter best known for his 1977 hit “Margaritaville,” has died at the age of 76.
Buffett’s death was confirmed on his website on Saturday. The statement said that he “passed away peacefully on the night of September 1st surrounded by his family, friends, music and dogs.”

Buffett was born in Pascagoula, Mississippi, in 1946. He began his music career in the early 1970s, and quickly became a popular performer with his laid-back, tropical-inspired music. His songs often celebrated the simple things in life, such as drinking, fishing, and taking it easy.
Buffett’s most famous song is “Margaritaville,” which became a worldwide hit in 1977. The song has been covered by many artists, and has become a popular anthem for beach vacations and laid-back lifestyles.

Buffett is survived by his wife Jane Slagsvol, their two daughters, Sarah and Savannah, and son, Cameron.
