Eko Hot Blog reports The Imo State Police Command has confirmed the tragic killing of one police officer and two civilians in an attack by hoodlums along the Owerri-Orlu road in Imo State.

The incident, which occurred on Monday, has raised concerns and triggered investigations into the motive behind the assault.

EDITOR’S PICK:

Imo State Police Public Relations Officer, Henry Okoye, officially confirmed the incident to newsmen in Owerri. While the police have not provided a clear reason for the attack, eyewitness accounts suggest varying circumstances.

Some witnesses claimed that the perpetrators were enforcing the sit-at-home order on behalf of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), while others speculated that they were armed robbers specifically targeting Point of Sale (POS) operators.

One eyewitness shared, “It seemed like they were enforcing the sit-at-home order; they were armed and aggressive. We couldn’t understand why they attacked the police officers and civilians.”

Another version of events suggested that the hoodlums were fleeing after an operation and, in the process, encountered the police officers, leading to the fatal shooting.

The exact motive remains unclear, and the Imo State Police Command has initiated an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the attack.

The Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, condemned the incident, describing it as “barbaric” and expressed deep regret over the loss of lives. He has ordered the command’s Tactical Team to collaborate with other security agencies to apprehend the perpetrators responsible for the attack.

“This is a very unfortunate incident. The Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, condemns this barbaric attack in totality and has ordered the command’s Tactical Team to go all out in synergy with other sister security agencies and clamp down on the hoodlums,” stated the Imo Police Command.
