Imokun Community Urges Lagos Govt To Upgrade High Chief Suwailu Ishola To Oba Status

Imokun is a community in Eredo LCDA, Epe Division, Lagos State.

The community is currently led by a Lagos State Government-recognised Baale (village head).

However, the community wants more from the state government.
Eko Hot Blog reports that indigenes of Imokun Community, under the leadership of Baale, High Chief Suwaliu Muritala Ishola Adewale, have appealed to the Lagos State Government to upgrade its village head to the status of Oba.
The community made this call on Friday, May 17, 2024, during the celebration of the Imokun Ebi Kilajolu Festival in Imokun, Epe, Lagos State.

Indigenes who spoke with Eko Hot Blog told our correspondent of their wishes to witness the installation of High Chief Adewale as an Oba.
An indigene, who preferred not to be named, praised the Baale for fostering peace in the community, while expressing hope that he will do more if he is upgraded to the status of a monarch.
Furthermore, Imokun residents expressed confidence in the Baale’s capacity to rule the community as an Oba.
Addressing community members at the celebration of the Kilajolu Festival, High Chief Adewale expressed gratitude towards the community and key figures while advocating for community upgrades.
He thanked them for their support, while acknowledging those who traveled from distant places to partake in the festival, expressing excitement at their presence.
The Imokun leader also specially commended the Aladeshoyin of Odo-Noforija, Oba Babatunde Ogunlaja, for his tireless efforts in elevating the community, earning it recognition among Epe communities.
High Chief Adewale implored Oba Ogunlaja to continue his benevolent deeds and assistance in advancing Imokun’s status to Obaship, akin to Odo Egiri and Odomola.
Likewise, he appreciated Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for granting approval to the community.
The Baale also renewed his community’s plea for the state government’s assistance in upgrading the High Chief title to Kingship.
Also, High Chief Adewale emphasized Imokun’s significance as the largest community in Eredo LCDA, Epe, yet to be elevated from Baale to Obaship status.
Notably, the Baale expressed gratitude to the Chairman of Eredo LCDA, Hon. Ismail Monsuru Akinloye, for his support, particularly for the construction of a new fence at the community primary school and his receptive approach to community concerns.
He also commended the youth for their hard work in driving community development initiatives and prayed for divine blessings upon everyone in the community, hoping that the government would heed their pleas and fulfill their aspirations.

Similarly, High Chief Adewale lauded the efforts of various chiefs within the community, including Chief Alaketu Ayo Dele, Chief Yesiru Salami, Chief Y.K Dairo, and Chief Mufutau Badaru, for their dedicated service towards community development.
