Eko Hot Blog reports that Prince Abiola Olojo-Kosoko, the Oloja-elect of Lagos, has announced the upcoming event “The Return 1862,” a week-long celebration of Lagos’ rich cultural heritage.
Speaking on behalf of the family head, Alhaja Chief Mutiat Ashabi Abimbola Alli-Balogun, and the council of heads of branches, he detailed the significance and planned activities of the event.

Scheduled from September 8th to 16th, 2024, ‘The Return 1862′ commemorates the historic return of King Kosoko and his followers to Lagos in 1862.
This event marked the founding of the settlement known as Epetedo and the establishment of the Ereko Palace, pivotal moments in Lagos’ history.
The celebration aims to honour King Kosoko and his followers, highlighting their crucial role in shaping Lagos.
Various activities will take place throughout the week, starting with a press briefing on July 30th, 2024, at 2 pm at King Kosoko Palace on Ereko Street, Lagos Island.
The event’s highlights include a memorial lecture, book and family anthem launch on September 8th at Glover Memorial Hall, and an inter-denominational traditional religion prayer on September 10th at King Kosoko Palace.
Other activities include a Jumat service on September 13th at Lagos Central Mosque, a thanksgiving service on September 15th at Ereko Methodist Church, and the unveiling of the Arrival Lighting on the same day at King Kosoko Palace.
The grand finale will take place on September 16th, 2024, at 12 noon at King Kosoko Palace.
Prince Abiola emphasized that ‘The Return 1862′ is a unique event that brings together indigenous people from all five divisions of Lagos, promoting cultural awareness, unity, and tourism.
Dignitaries, traditional rulers, government officials, and cultural enthusiasts from across Nigeria are invited to join the celebrations.
The event is seen as an opportunity to reflect on Lagos’ past, appreciate the present, and shape the future, fostering unity and cultural exchange while contributing to the city’s economic development.
