We’ve No Plans To Retrench Workers –Abia Gov, Otti

Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has debunked as a ruse, report making the round that his administration is planning mass retrenchment of workers.

The Governor dismissed the rumour while speaking during a monthly media parley in Umuahia on Friday night.
He described the rumour as the handiwork of his detractors, urging members of the public to discountenance the rumour.
“I have not thought about the alleged looming retrenchment.
“There is no any massive retrenchment in the pipe line. We will continue to ensure that the civil service is enhanced and productivity increased,” he said.
According to the governor, his administration is committed workers’ welfare, explaining that under his watch, Abia workers now get paid at the 28th day of every month, a feat that was unprecedented before his emergence.
He also assured of his commitment to clear the remaining outstanding arrears of salary arrears accumulated by his predecessors.
“The debts were inherited and I will pay them. In a few days , those payments wil happen.” Otti assured.
On the efforts of his administration to improve the quality of health care delivery in the state, Otti said eye care centre had been inaugurated at the Amachara General hospital Umuahia.
He said 600 patients had their eyes checked on the official opening day of the centre last week.
The Governor disclosed that government had started the phase 2 of upgrading of the Abia State University Teaching Hospital, ABSUTH for optimal service delivery
Otti said 200 primary healthcare centres in the state had been earmarked for “retrofitting”, a project he said would take place within 100 days.
On education, the Governor reported that government has commenced training of 2000 master trainers of teachers who would in turn train others.
He added that another group is equally saddled with the responsibility of looking at the curricula for pupils in the state.
He also informed the people that he is not resting on his oars in the area of environmental sanitation and revealed that his government is planning to do a project of turning waste into wealth and solicited support of all and sundry
On the recent extended stakeholders’ meeting of the Labour Party hosted by him in Umuahia, the Governor explained that it was aimed at restoring and repositioning the party.
He expressed satisfaction that people are delighted over the outcome of the meeting.
“I believe that what we did was in the interest of the party. We have a vested interest in ensuring that the party will continue to operate as a political party in Nigeria,” he stated.
