Edo Guber Poll: AA’s Iseghhi-Okojie Withdraws, Endorses APC’s Okpebholo
Just days before the pivotal Edo State governorship election set for September 21, Tom Iseghhi-Okojie, the Action Alliance candidate, has withdrawn from the race and endorsed Senator Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
During a press conference on Sunday, Iseghhi-Okojie explained that his decision to withdraw stemmed from his belief that effective leadership involves not only standing independently but also recognizing when to unite for the greater good.
He stressed that his endorsement of Okpebholo is aimed at fostering unity and achieving effective governance for Edo State. Iseghhi-Okojie, accompanied by her running mate, Deaconess Mabel Onaiwu, and APC Acting Chairman, Jarrett Tenebe, stated:
“I address you today with a profound sense of responsibility and hope for our beloved Edo State. I have decided to step down from the governorship race and join forces with the All Progressives Congress and its candidate, Monday Okpebholo.

“Edo cannot afford another term of mismanagement, economic hardship, and insecurity. Therefore, I am aligning with the APC to change the narrative. The PDP has had its chance, but unfortunately, it has not delivered the progress our state needs. After careful consideration, I believe that aligning with APC and Senator Okpebholo is the best path forward.
“Senator Monday Okpebholo may not be known for his oratory skills, but leadership is about action, not just words. History shows that great leaders, like Winston Churchill and Abraham Lincoln, were often criticized for their speaking styles, yet their strength and vision led their nations through tough times.
“Senator Okpebholo embodies this kind of leadership. He may not dazzle crowds with grand speeches, but he is strategic, thoughtful, and deeply connected to his people. He has demonstrated to me that he listens, makes tough decisions, and is committed to improving the lives of Edo people. His motivation is not ego or power, but a genuine desire to effect positive change.
“By stepping down and joining forces with the APC, I am not abandoning my promise to the people. Instead, I am fulfilling it in the most effective way possible. The Action Alliance brings a grassroots structure of 65,000 members and the ability to mobilize at least 500,000 votes.

This collaboration ensures a decisive victory and the real change Edo needs. I will support Okpebholo by managing media relations, countering unfair attacks, and ensuring he engages directly with the people, something he excels at.”
Tenebe added that after eight years of PDP underperformance, the party sought collaborations with others to form a government of unity. He emphasized that empathy is crucial for effective governance, and those without it cannot drive development.
