Following Sunday’s 1-1 draw against Genoa, Roma find themselves 16th in the Serie A table.
A club statement read: “The club’s decision is taken in the interest of the team, to be able to promptly resume the desired path at a time when the season is still at its beginning.
“To Daniele, who will always be at home in the Giallorossi club, a heartfelt thanks for the work carried out in these months with passion and dedication.”
Daniele De Rossi’s managerial stint at Roma began on a high note. In his first 11 Serie A games, Roma suffered just one defeat, amassing 26 points out of a possible 33. This impressive run lifted the team from ninth to fifth in the league standings.
Under De Rossi, Roma also made a deep run in Europe, reaching the semi-finals of the Europa League before being eliminated by Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen.
Last season, Roma finished sixth in Serie A, securing qualification for this season’s Europa League. Their European campaign includes a high-profile clash against Tottenham on 28 November.

During the summer transfer window, Roma bolstered their squad by signing last season’s La Liga top scorer, Artem Dovbyk, from Girona, along with veteran German defender Mats Hummels on a free transfer.
However, the club saw several high-profile departures. Former Manchester United defender Chris Smalling moved to Saudi Pro League side Al-Fayha, while striker Tammy Abraham joined AC Milan on loan. Romelu Lukaku, who was on loan from Chelsea last season, signed with Napoli. Andrea Belotti (Como), Rui Patricio (Atalanta), and Leonardo Spinazzola (Napoli) also left the club in recent months.
As a player, De Rossi was a Roma legend, spending 22 years at the club from 1997 to 2019, making 616 appearances. He was also part of Italy’s 2006 World Cup-winning squad.
Roma is primarily owned by The Friedkin Group, which holds a 95.97% stake in the club. The group’s attempted takeover of Everton fell through in July.
