World Teachers’ Day, marked globally every year on October 5, is a day to appreciate the pivotal role teachers play in shaping the future of students.
This year’s theme, “Valuing Teacher Voices: Towards a New Social Contract for Education,” focused on the need to consider teachers’ input when forming education policies and to address the challenges they face in their profession.
During the event, Hon. Adebayo Abiodun praised the teachers for their hard work, perseverance, and sacrifices, noting that they are the foundation of any society.
“Teachers are the backbone of our society,” Hon. Abiodun said. “Without them, we wouldn’t have educated doctors, lawyers, engineers, or leaders. It’s crucial that we show them the respect and appreciation they deserve.”
During the interview, he emphasized that society often overlooks the contributions of teachers, even though they deserve the most recognition.
“People rarely acknowledge the efforts of teachers, yet they are the ones who truly deserve our highest appreciation. They shape the future by nurturing young minds, and we must never take that for granted,” he stated.
Hon. Abiodun assured the teachers that if he becomes the next chairman of Ikosi-Ejinrin LCDA, he would prioritize their welfare and create an environment that allows them to thrive.
“I promise to support you better when I become chairman,” he said. “We will ensure that your voices are heard and that you get the respect and rewards you deserve for your hard work.”
The celebration was filled with joyful moments as outstanding teachers received awards for their excellent service.
Many teachers were delighted to see Hon. Abiodun at the event and appreciated his thoughtful words and promises of support.
“We are hopeful that if he becomes chairman, he will bring positive changes to the education sector,” said Mrs. Aderonke, one of the teachers present.
“His presence here today shows that he values what we do and is willing to listen to our concerns.”
