Lagos State Health District III Sensitizes Citizens on Mass Vaccination as Hon. Olowa Calls for Cooperation

Ekohotblog reports that the Lagos State Health District III today convened a stakeholder meeting aimed at sensitizing residents on the importance of mass vaccination.

 

The meeting, held at the NUT Hall in Ibeju-Agbe, was attended by top health officials, community leaders, and the Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Hon. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, who urged for active participation and cooperation during the upcoming immunization exercise.

In his address to the audience, Hon. Olowa emphasized the significance of health as a cornerstone for community development. “Health is indeed wealth,” he stated.

 

“We must all ensure that we give our maximum cooperation to the health officials when the immunization exercise begins. This is a collective responsibility, and I urge everyone to take it seriously.”

 

Highlighting his administration’s commitment to advancing healthcare, Hon. Olowa outlined several infrastructural upgrades within the council area.

 

“We have improved healthcare facilities in Awoyaya, Orimedu, Ibeju-Agbe, and Ayeteju Primary Health Centres (PHCs) to better serve our people,” he noted.

 

During the forum, Hon. Olowa also announced that the Lagos State Ministry of Health will soon introduce the “Ilera Eko” Program, which aims to make healthcare accessible to all.

 

“The Local Government will sponsor 1,000 residents at the cost of ₦11,500 per person under the Ilera Eko scheme.

 

This initiative will go a long way in ensuring that no one is left behind in receiving quality healthcare,” he said, drawing loud applause from the audience.

 

The Permanent Secretary of Lagos State Health District III, Dr. Monsurah Adeleke, commended the council’s efforts and called for increased community awareness.

 

“Vaccination is one of the most effective public health interventions. It is our duty to protect ourselves and our loved ones from preventable diseases,” Dr. Adeleke stated.

 

Adding to the sensitization, Dr. Adenike, the Medical Officer of Health, Eti-Osa, delivered a comprehensive lecture on the dangers of yellow fever, measles, and the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV).

 

She explained that while some of these diseases are communicable, others are contracted through sexual activities.

“It is important to take the vaccinations seriously to prevent the spread of these ailments and safeguard our health,” she advised.

 

The event was graced by several dignitaries, including the Secretary to the Local Government, Hon. Adewale Adebanjo; the Supervisor for Health, Hon. Tajudeen Sindiku Oniwonlu; the Supervisor for Education, Hon. Ogungbo Temitope Sofwan; Hon. Aliasau Dehinde; and Hon. Olusola Edalere.

 

Also in attendance were traditional rulers, artisans, traders, market women, and the Chairman of the Community Development Committee (CDC), Hon. Jabita Adeboye.
