As a result, the state sought to discontinue the charges against Gambaryan.

Following the court decision, Gambaryan was released from Kuje prison on Wednesday night and left Nigeria to reunite with his family in the United States.

In a statement on behalf of the family, Gambaryan’s wife, Yuki, expressed relief at his release: “The past eight months have been a nightmare. I wish it hadn’t taken so long or that his health hadn’t declined, but now we can focus on healing as a family.”
