Amorim is United’s sixth permanent manager since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2013, marking a new chapter in the club’s post-Ferguson era.
The club’s official statement praised Amorim as “one of the most exciting and highly-rated young coaches in European football.” Earlier this week, Sporting Lisbon confirmed that United had agreed to pay the €10 million (£8.3 million) release clause in Amorim’s contract.
Amorim’s first fixture as Manchester United head coach is scheduled for November 24 against newly promoted Ipswich Town, following the international break.
His debut at Old Trafford will come shortly after, in a Europa League clash against Norwegian side Bodo/Glimt on November 28, followed by a Premier League game against Everton.

United plans to announce Amorim’s coaching staff soon. Meanwhile, Amorim has led Sporting Lisbon on a 14-game unbeaten run since their Super Cup loss to Porto in August.
He will oversee Sporting’s league game against Estrela tonight, followed by a Champions League face-off with Manchester City and a Portuguese league match against Braga, his former club, on November 10, before his move to Manchester United.
