Taraba Govt Shuts Airport For Upgrades

The Taraba State Government has announced the temporary closure of Danbaba Suntai Airport in Jalingo to allow for modernization and upgrades.

In a statement issued by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transportation Development, Genesis Kwantar, the government confirmed that the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority approved the closure. Operations at the airport are scheduled to resume on December 20, 2024.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that Kwantar outlined several key components of the upgrade, including the construction of drainage systems, a perimeter fence, and the extension of the runway from 2.4 kilometers to 3 kilometers. Additionally, the Instrument Landing System will be enhanced, and two new fire tenders will be acquired.

“The Taraba State Government remains committed to improving transportation infrastructure,” Kwantar stated. “These upgrades will enhance the airport’s functionality, benefiting commuters within Taraba State and bolstering connectivity with neighboring states.”

Residents have been assured that all necessary steps are being taken to ensure the timely completion of the project.

The temporary closure and upgrade reflect the state’s efforts to modernize its transportation facilities, aiming to provide safer and more efficient services for its users.
