Minimum Wage NLC Strike Katsina

The Katsina State branch of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has issued a stern warning that it will begin an indefinite strike over the state’s failure to implement the new minimum wage.

The NLC has set a deadline of Monday, November 25, for the state government to provide a positive response regarding the payment of the ₦70,000 new minimum wage to workers.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that Hussain Hamisu, the NLC Chairman in Katsina, voiced strong dissatisfaction over the state government’s delay in starting the payment process, despite the expiration of the deadline for negotiations.

He emphasized that the strike action was in line with the directive from the NLC’s national leadership following its National Executive Council (NEC) meeting in Port Harcourt.

“The committee work on the implementation of the new minimum wage, set up by the state government, has concluded, but there has been no action taken since the deadline expired,” Hamisu said. “If by Monday, there is no positive response from the government, we will have no choice but to declare an indefinite strike in accordance with the decision made at the NEC meeting.”
