Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Hosts 2nd Edition of Chairman’s Under-16 Football Cup
Eko hot blog reports that The 2nd edition of the Chairman’s Under-16 Football Cup concluded with an exciting finale on Saturday, November 30, 2024, in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos State
Organized by Ibeju-Lekki Local Government in partnership with the Lagos State Government, the tournament aimed to promote youth development through sports.
The competition featured 16 teams from across the area and received widespread praise from participants, officials, and spectators.
Speaking at the event, the Executive Chairman, Hon. Engr. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, highlighted the purpose of the tournament.
“This is not just about football. It’s about creating opportunities for our youth to show their skills, build confidence, and prepare for a better future. That’s why we added track and field events this year, so everyone has a chance to participate,” he said.
The Chairman expressed his gratitude to the sponsors, coaches, and officials who contributed to the event’s success.
“I am grateful to everyone who contributed to this success. Together, we are helping our youth grow and achieve their dreams,” he added.
Hon. Olushola Edalere, Special Adviser to the Chairman on Agric and Social Services, commended the tournament.
“We’ve seen amazing matches and unforgettable moments. This is a great opportunity for our young people to shine,” he said.
The competition concluded with three teams winning top prizes:
Iba-Oloja emerged as champions, receiving ₦2 million.
Onidogbo secured second place with ₦1.5 million.
Igbo-Ikate finished third, earning ₦1 million.
Prizes were also awarded to track and field winners for their outstanding performances.
Engr. Olowa, honored with the Man of the Moment award by the Epe Division Coaches, expressed his appreciation.
“This award motivates me to keep doing more for our youth and community,” he said.
The event was graced by numerous dignitaries, including Vice Chairman Hon. Isiaka Yusuf Olatunji, Secretary to the Local Government Hon. Fasali Adewale Adebanjo, Supervisor for Agric and Social Services Hon. Muyideen Kareem, traditional leaders, party officials, councilors, and security personnel.
A young spectator, Emmanuel Adebayo, shared his aspirations.
“I want to play in this tournament one day and make my community proud. Watching these games has inspired me to practice more,” he said.
