A Kano resident, Malam Surajo Yarima, has urged Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to look into the sale of his house, which he claims was auctioned unfairly.
According to Yarima, his house, worth about N20 million, was sold for only N2 million to settle a debt of N300,000. This left him, his wife, and their nine children homeless.

Speaking during an interview with Hikima RTV, a local radio station, Yarima explained that the court had summoned him several times regarding the debt. However, notices were only pasted on the gate of his house, and he failed to attend the hearings because he was not in Kano at the time.
“I came back to Kano after the court’s judgment and immediately brought the N300,000 to pay off the debt on January 6, just two days after the auction. But my creditor refused to take the payment,” Yarima said.
He also shared that the court told him he had three weeks to appeal the judgment, but the auction went ahead anyway. He accused the judicial process of lacking transparency and fairness, as his house was sold for far less than its actual value.
“The house was auctioned for just N2 million, and now my family and I are forced to sleep outside,” Yarima lamented.
