Price Of Cooking Gas Per Kg This Week In Nigeria
- Cooking gas prices fluctuate due to global prices and exchange rates.
- Transportation costs and supply-demand issues affect pricing.
- Prices range from ₦1,300 for 1kg to ₦16,250 for 12.5kg.
The price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), known as cooking gas, has remained a thing of concern for Nigerians because of the constant price fluctuation.
The price changes are influenced by a number of factors, including transportation costs, exchange rate, and market shifts, i.e demand and supply.
This week, slight variations in prices have been observed in various parts of the country.

EKO HOT BLOG gahtered that one of the major factors driving these fluctuations is the price of LPG in the international market. Since Nigeria imports a significant portion of its cooking gas, domestic prices are sensitive to changes in global LPG prices. As a result, when international prices rise, the impact is directly felt by Nigerian consumers. Nigeria’s reliance on imports, despite being a gas-rich country, makes the domestic market vulnerable to these international shifts.
Another thing affecting gas prices is the rate of naira against dollar.
The weakening of the naira has been a big problem for importers. With the exchange rate constantly fluctuating, the price of cooking gas continues to rise.
Transportation costs also play a significant role in the price of gas. Due to the increase in fuel prices, the cost of transporting LPG from depots to end-users has skyrocketed, especially in areas far from the coastal depots. This is most noticeable in regions where gas distribution is more challenging, further inflating prices.
The dynamics of demand and supply are also contributing to price changes.
After the festive season, there has been a slight drop in demand, and it has led to minor price reductions in a few locations.
However, in some places, where supply bottlenecks exist or where demand remains high, prices continue to rise.
Below is a breakdown of the current price of cooking gas per kilogram:
1kg Cooking gas – ₦1,300
3kg Cooking gas – ₦3,900
5kg Cooking gas – ₦6,500
6kg Cooking gas – ₦7,800
10kg Cooking gas – ₦13,000
12.5kg Cooking gas – ₦16,250
