EKO HOT BLOG reports that Meranda told reporters that the visit was to brief the council about developments at the House of Assembly following her election on Monday and to seek their endorsement.
“We briefed the GAC about what happened at the state House of Assembly and to seek their blessings, which we have gotten,” she said.
The GAC, created by President Bola Tinubu, serves as the highest decision-making body of the party in Lagos State. The meeting, which took place at Lagos House, Marina, included some key principal officers of the Assembly.
While Meranda shared details of her meeting with the press, the GAC, led by Tajudeen Olusi, declined to address journalists. It was noted, however, that Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu departed Nigeria on Monday night for an official engagement.
The leadership change in the House of Assembly follows the impeachment of former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa on Monday.
Obasa, currently abroad, was removed by Assembly members over allegations of misconduct and financial misappropriation.
Meranda was elected immediately after Obasa’s impeachment and has since sought to build alliances to ensure a successful tenure.
