Reacting to the common mistake people make with her name, “Damasus,” she explained that her grandfather’s surname, “Ojukwu,” was changed during the Civil War to avoid being attacked.
The actress noted that her family’s name was mistakenly associated with the late Biafran war general, Ojukwu.
Ebuka remarked, “It’s interesting that so many people didn’t even know that your surname was originally different. Many people were shocked by the revelation—were you as shocked as they were?”

Stella responded, “Damasus is my granddaughter’s first name. It’s a Greek name. My original surname was Ojukwu, but that changed during the Biafran War when my people were attacked in Asaba because they thought we were related to the same Ojukwu.
“I was born into the name Damasus, and when I asked why, that’s the reason they gave me.”
