Iranian President to Trump: ‘Don’t Risk War with Us’

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has issued a stern warning to U.S. President-elect Donald Trump, cautioning against actions that could escalate tensions and lead to war with Iran.

In an interview with NBC News aired Tuesday, Pezeshkian emphasized that Iran is not pursuing nuclear weapons and called for peace in the region.

“I do hope that Trump will conduce to peace in the region and the world, not, conversely, contribute to bloodshed or war,” Pezeshkian stated, as Trump prepares to assume office.

The Iranian leader addressed the prospect of U.S.-endorsed Israeli strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities, declaring that Iran would respond decisively to any aggression.

“We will react to any action. We do not fear war, but we do not seek it,” Pezeshkian warned.

Iran’s foreign minister, Abbas Araghchi, announced that European powers, including France, Britain, and Germany, are serious about resuming nuclear program negotiations.

This comes as the 2015 nuclear agreement, which eased sanctions on Iran in exchange for limits on its nuclear activities, remains in limbo.

The U.S. unilaterally withdrew from the accord in 2018 during Trump’s first term, reimposing strict economic sanctions that prompted Iran to gradually abandon its commitments.

Pezeshkian reiterated Iran’s stance on nuclear development, stating,

“We do not seek to create nuclear weaponry or armament. However, they accuse us of seeking the manufacturing of a bomb.”

When asked about the possibility of dialogue with Trump, Pezeshkian expressed skepticism, citing past experiences.

“The problem we have is not in dialogue. It’s in the commitments that arise from talks… It was the other party that did not live up to its promises and obligations.”

Pezeshkian’s remarks highlight the ongoing challenges in U.S.-Iran relations as global powers push for renewed diplomacy.
