- Trump’s inauguration events relocated indoors due to dangerously cold weather forecast in Washington, DC.
- Ceremony to be held inside the Capitol Rotunda, with the parade and inaugural balls moved to Capital One Arena.
- This marks the first indoor presidential inauguration since Ronald Reagan’s in 1985, also caused by extreme cold.
President-elect Donald Trump has confirmed that his inaugural address on January 20 will be held indoors due to dangerously cold weather expected in Washington next week.
The address, along with other speeches, will now take place inside the US Capitol’s rotunda instead of the traditional outdoor setting.
Additionally, the inaugural parade has been moved to Washington’s Capital One Arena, located about a mile (1.6 km) from the Capitol, where all three inaugural balls will also take place.

The last president to be sworn in indoors was Ronald Reagan in 1985, also due to extreme cold weather at the US Capitol.
In a statement posted to his Truth Social social media platform, Trump said that he does not “want to see people hurt, or injured, in any way” amid the freezing temperatures.
“It is dangerous conditions for the tens of thousands of law enforcement, first responders, police K9s and even horses” as well as “hundreds of thousands” of supporters.
“In any event, if you decide to come, dress warmly,” he added.

Before the inauguration, organizers announced plans to distribute approximately 220,000 tickets for attendees to view the event on the grounds of the U.S. Capitol.
For those without tickets, the ceremonies were to be broadcast on large screens across the National Mall, allowing wider public participation.
However, the decision to move the event indoors significantly limits the capacity for Monday’s swearing-in ceremony for Trump, who is known for closely monitoring attendance at his public events.

Following his first inauguration, Trump claimed that “a million and a half people” had gathered on the National Mall to witness the occasion.
In contrast, crowd-size experts estimated that attendance was closer to one-third of the 800,000 to one million people who attended Barack Obama’s 2009 inauguration.
