Phil Foden was the standout performer, contributing two goals and an assist in a brilliant first-half display. His opener came in the 28th minute, expertly controlling Kevin De Bruyne’s cross before finishing decisively. Three minutes later, Foden turned provider, setting up Mateo Kovacic for a precise strike from the edge of the box. Foden then added his second goal just before halftime, again from a De Bruyne assist, with his low shot slipping under Ipswich goalkeeper Christian Walton.
City’s determination to silence critics after a poor end to last year was evident as they continued to pile on the goals in the second half. Jeremy Doku made it 4-0 with a deflected effort after a driving run into the box. Erling Haaland, fresh off signing a new nine-and-a-half-year deal, capitalized on an Ipswich defensive error to score City’s fifth from a Doku assist.
